"Previously collaborating with 70's folk musician David Mingo on the soundtrack to Prince Avalanche back in 2013, Manglehorn marks the Texan post-rock powerhouses second foray into the world of David Gordon Green and his films. Abandoning their primary instrument (the guitar), the group shift to extended pieces for percussion and match the minimalistic performances of Pacino and Hunter with a slightly uncharacteristic minimalist approach to their score. Revolving around an aged man reflecting on his life and the discontent and anger which has pervaded happiness, the plot is reflected in the music EITS and Wingo have collaborated on."- Bleep
"On Prince Avalanche, the enormous, trembling tremolo chords that usually hang like supernovas in Explosions' sky diffuse into a variety of subtler constellations, mostly made of acoustic guitar and piano in counterpoint with electric shimmers and hums. There are taut, crackling ambient pieces ("Fires", "Wading"). There are haunting e-bowed meditations, like the melody for saturated overtones on "Theme from Prince Avalanche" or the plaintive theme on "Passing Time", which recurs on later tracks to give the record its elegiac emotional center." - Pitchfork
