Having already made his mark on music blogs and French radio, Swedish/German singer-songwriter Von Poehl has made a debut album that guarantees some mainstream attention. This is the kind of lush, layered pop-folk that repeatedly captures the essence of the pastoral side of the Beatles without ever actually copying them. So while brass, strings, woodwind and organ lend texture and surprise, it's the dark, autumnal melodies that add a disquieting edge to Von Poehl's boyish voice, particularly on highlights 'Travelers' and 'A Broken Skeleton Key'.
